The British Security Industry Association, Information Destruction Section

BSIA logo

The BSIA ID Section was formed in April 2000, when NAID UK , the Nationwide Association for Information Destruction, merged with the BSIA to form a new section on information destruction.

The BSIA is Britain ’s biggest security association and many of Britain ’s leading security companies are long term members. All members must have UKAS-approved ISO9001:2000 quality certification and sign up to their own specific industry code of practice and/or ethics.

Shortly after merging, the new BSIA ID Section started work on a revised code of practice that would eventually become a new British Standard on the destruction of confidential information, to be known as BS8470, and due for release to the wider public in the Summer of 2006.

The new British Standard concentrates more on the service element of business, such as cctv systems; collection, movement and storage; and less on the physical side of destruction, though there is some guidance on destruction and shred sizes.

The BSIA ID Section now has around 30 member companies from all parts of Britain , giving almost a nationwide coverage.

From Banks to Credit Card Companies, from Airlines to Supermarkets, and from Local Authorities to Media Companies, BSIA IDS Members like Papersafe UK are supplying cost-effective solutions and off-site shredding services.
